Today Is the Day to Follow Your Dreams

Following your dreams is easier when you know what your dreams are, what actionable steps you need to take, and important things to remember on your journey.

Dear Spirited Earthling,

Today is a the day to follow your dreams! Sometimes it can be scary to pursue what you truly want in life, but taking that first step is often the hardest. Whether it's starting your own business, pursuing a new career, or simply trying something new, it's important to remember that the only thing standing in your way is yourself.

One way to start following your dreams is by setting small goals that will lead you in the right direction. These goals should be achievable and realistic, but also challenging enough to push you out of your comfort zone. As you achieve these goals, you'll gain confidence and momentum towards the bigger picture.

It's also important to surround yourself with people who support and encourage you. Whether it's friends, family, or mentors, having a strong support system can make all the difference when it comes to pursuing your dreams. Remember, success is not a solo journey, so don't be afraid to ask for help or advice along the way.

What is Your Dream?

The answer may come to you straight away. If not, here are some journal prompts to reveal dreams and goals. Some of these prompts can help too:

  • Think about when you were a child or a teenager, was there something you wanted to do or become? Or what did you love doing as a child or teenager or young adult?

  • Ask people who know you well what they think your dream is. Maybe you’re always talking about something without realising it, or maybe they recognise your potential in something, but you haven’t spent time refining it.

  • Write down: I want to… and finish the sentence. Write this sentence 10 or 30 times until you’ve got some ideas and have let your creativity flow. Choose one of these dreams to follow today.

  • Like the idea before, what do you think of when you imagine your best life in 5 years?

  • Think about what you don’t like about your life (apartment, job, how you spend your time, a bad habit) and then think about how changing something would make you happier. Sometimes it’s easier to know what you don’t like or want, so use that to figure out what you like or want.

  • If money was of no concern, what would you do (for work, in your spare time, with your family)?

  • Who or what do you envy? Sometimes, envy and jealousy can lead to inspiration for your own life. You’re aware of what you want.

What are the Actionable Steps You Need to Take?

List any actionable steps that you would need to take to follow your dream and turn it into reality. Think about ideas in and outside the boy. Rearrange the list into a logical order of what would need to be done first, in the middle, and at the end.

  • If speaking to groups of people is part of your dream (whether it be in having confidence in company meetings, in a courtroom, or in a classroom) think about joining Toastmasters to practice and improve your public speaking and build your confidence.

  • Is your dream to start singing (gigging) and earn money? Look for groups of like-minded people in your area and attend events and showcases, you are making connections with people within your desired field.

  • Your dream may be to live healthier so that you’re around for your family. Start working out today. Go for a walk, get a subscription for a workout app to exercise at home, join a gym and get a personal trainer, or sign up for 10 classes at a yoga studio. Start eating healthier today. Shop with a grocery list and don’t deviate from it. Order meal prep boxes with healthy food delivered to your door. Do what works for you and your lifestyle.

Take the First Actionable Step Today

Today is the day to follow your dreams. It’s okay to start small:

  • If becoming an author is your dream, set out time to write each day and hone your skills.

  • When your dream is to afford to live in a particular apartment or home, it’s time to draw up a budget.

  • If you want to become a surfer, book a lesson today.

  • To be healthier, go for that walk and limit your coffee and alcohol intake.

Remember

Following your dreams can be a daunting and challenging endeavour, as it often involves stepping outside of your comfort zone. While staying within your comfort zone may feel comfortable and easy, it can also be limiting and keep you from experiencing new opportunities and reaching your full potential.

Age is a number that represents experience. It is never too late to pursue your dreams. Often, you may feel like it is too late to start something new, but age should never be a barrier to doing what you love. In fact, many people have found success later in life, and it is never too late to try. There is no expiration date on following your dreams.

It is important to listen to the advice and opinions of others, as they can provide valuable insights and perspectives that you may not have considered before. However, at the end of the day, it is important to trust yourself to make the right decision for you. After all, you are the one who knows yourself best and understands your own needs and desires. Being pleased with yourself is more important than pleasing others.

Focus on positive outcomes and believe that you are capable of achieving them, the universe will align in your favour and help you to achieve those outcomes. This is not to say that you can simply sit back and wait for good things to happen; you still need to take action and work towards your dreams. However, by maintaining a positive mindset and staying open to opportunities, you can work with the Universe and trust in divine timing. Focus on what you can control and let the Universe do the rest.

You don’t have to be ‘special’ to be important and do great things. You don’t have to be defined by the past. Following your dream can be setting aside time to follow your dream each day. Reschedule your day, watch an episode less a day, and find a new form of balance.
