5 Easy 'Winter Reset Week' Self-Care Ideas

Easy winter wellness reset week self-care ideas that connect you with the season you’re in, yourself, and your loved ones.

Dear Spirited Earthling,

Winter is a time of year when it is important to pay extra attention to our health and well-being. The cold weather, shorter days, and lack of sunlight can all have an impact on our physical and mental health. If you’re in need of a reset week, these 5 ideas can help you experience some winter wellness. You can do one or two practices a day, or all 5 on each day.

Of course, these wellness reset week self-care ideas can be done in any of the seasons.

  1. Gratitude Journal

Gratitude journaling is a simple yet powerful practice that involves writing down things you are thankful for. Research has shown that gratitude journaling can have a range of benefits for mental health and well-being. It can help to reduce stress, increase feelings of happiness and contentment, improve sleep quality, and even boost your immune system.

To get started with gratitude journaling, simply set aside a few minutes each day to reflect on the things you are grateful for. Write down at least three things that you appreciate in your life, whether they are big or small. They could be anything from a loving relationship, a fulfilling career, good health, or simply the sunshine on a beautiful day.

You can do this in the mornings and evenings. Make a cup of tea and get cosy with a blanket. You could sit at your altar, light a candle or incense or Palo Santo. In the morning, you can list three people, experiences, or things you are grateful for. In the evening, you can list three things you are grateful for that happened today. Practising gratitude keeps you looking out for kindness and happy surprises each day and is a perfect winter wellness reset week self-care idea that you can keep doing in any season. Gratitude journaling can become an important self-care habit and mindfulness practice.

2. Go Outside

Spending time outside during winter can be a great way to enjoy the crisp, fresh air and stay active. Dress warmly and take walks in natural areas near you. Release the tension in your muscles and let your winter walks enchant you. Listen to the crunchy steps you take, feel the silence of a sleeping forest, watch the sunlight glisten and dance on the snow. Fall in love with the season you’re in.

3. Mindful Eating

Eating seasonal produce is a great way to support local farmers, reduce the carbon footprint of your food, and enjoy the freshest and most flavourful fruits and vegetables. When you eat seasonal produce, you are also consuming food that is at its peak in terms of nutrients. Eating meals made with seasonal produce is another way to connect you to the season you’re in.

Mindfully eat your warm and nutritious soup – taste the flavours, feel the warmth, and notice how you feel after the meal. As you’re snuggled up, take a moment to appreciate the delectable hot chocolate or glühwein that always tastes best in winter.

4. Cosy Rituals

Are there cosy rituals you can easily create to bring you joy and stave off the winter blues?

  • If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace, light the fire and take a moment to release your stress from the day with a few deep breaths by the flames.

  • Have a set movie night to watch and rewatch your favourite winter and Christmas films.

  • Make a cup of tea and snuggle under a warm blanket as you enter the world created by a favourite author.

  • Eat dinner by candlelight with no phones or TV on.

  • Do some deep stretching and give yourself a hug every evening before bed.

This winter reset week is about doing things that make you happy as you practice self-care.

5. Connect with Loved Ones

Connecting with loved ones is a vital aspect of maintaining our overall wellness. Whether it's family, friends, or someone special, having strong relationships helps us feel connected and supported. Being a part of a community is deeply rooted in human history and the tribes that helped us survive and thrive.

Call and message family and friends. Take a winter walk with a loved one. Have cosy gatherings together. Write and send postcards with messages of love to bring a smile to people important to you.
